Remember these odds for a 6/49 game?
We can improve our odds to win the 6/6, the jackpot, so much so that our odds to win are at least 1 in 317,814 (13,983,816/44). Our odds of matching 5 are 1 in 1,261 (55,492/44).
And, if we actually match the 5 on the face of our combination ticket we win 44 prizes for the 5/6. To change our odds we just play more tickets but the advantage of a combination 5 lottery ticket is two-fold; one - we don't have to fill out 44 boards and; two - if we even get 3 of the 5 numbers we picked we win $440, 4 of the 5 numbers we picked we win a good chunk of change. This is how it works: We'll pick 5 numbers to play instead of 6. Let's say we've picked the numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. By playing a combination 5 lottery we'd actually be playing the following 44 boards/tickets (each row being a board).
This is why the Combination 5 Lottery ticket for the Canadian 6/49 costs $88 because even though it comes out of the lottery machine looking like one ticket it is actually 44 tickets at $2 each. It's out of range of most budgets, however, when you play as a group it is a good ticket to get. Also, everyone forgets about the Ontario 49. Since the Ontario 49 is only $0.50 a ticket, the Combination 5 is only $22 (50 cents X 44). Not bad, for a 1 in 317,814 chance at a million dollars. Even if your lotto money budget doesn't allow you to play it even once a week, it's actually worth it to not play for three weeks and play it once a month. I mean 1 in 13,983,816 versus 1 in 317,814 !! Create a lottery group for the 6/49 Combination 5 and get together whenever the pot, gets big enough - it often goes over $20,000,000. The Combination Selection Slip is different from the regular LOTTO 6/49-ONTARIO 49 Selection Slip. There is an area where you blacken out a rectangle to indicate which game you are playing: 6/49 or Ontario 49. There is an area where you blacken out a rectangle to indicate the type of Combination Lottery game you are playing; 5, 7, 8, or 9; we would blacken the '5' rectangle. Then there is one board which looks just like the boards on the regular selection slip - here is where you blacken the 5 rectangles for the 5 numbers you will play. There are other kinds of combinations (wheeling) for the 6/49 and Ontario 49 lotteries - besides the 'Combination 5', there is the 'Combination 7', 'Combination 8', and 'Combination 9'. Let's look at the odds and the cost for those games next:
